Darley stallion Teofilo sired his second individual winner on Friday May 27, when his son Mezmaar was an impressive debut scorer over six-furlongs at Haydock. Usually an informative contest, his trainer Barry Hills has won this event twice in the previous six years with both winners, Spinning Queen and Rerouted, subsequently going on to become successful at Group level.
Bred by Denford Stud and sold as a yearling for 120,000Gns, Mezmaar is out of the Stakes-winning juvenile Bay Tree, herself a daughter of the Classic filly My Branch. Bay Tree is also a half-sister to Tante Rose, who had her finest day over the same course and distance as Mezmaar's victory when landing the G1 Sprint Cup.
Teofilo, who stands in Ireland at Kildangan Stud for €15,000 and will soon shuttle to Australia for a fee of $22,000, sired his first ever winner through his first ever runner when Parish Hall won impressively at Leopardstown in Ireland. By Galileo, he is bred on the same Danehill cross that has produced three classic winners already in Europe this season through Frankel, Roderic O'Connor and Golden Lilac.
