Dark Promise shines bright at Newmarket

Shamardal’s daughter proves too tough to beat in Listed Rosemary Stakes

Dark Promise, by Darley stallion Shamardal, won the Listed Rosemary Stakes over a mile on Friday, September 23, at Newmarket. The second race on the card, the Listed event was dominated by the four-year-old who made most of the running and found more in the last stages to score a decisive win. The winner is trained by Roger Varian and was ridden by Neil Callan.

Bred and owned by Lordship Stud, Dark Promise is out of the G3-placed mare La Sky, a half-sister to Love Divine, dam of the G1 St. Leger winner Sixties Icon. La Sky, by Law Society, is also a half-sister to the dam of another Shamardal top performer in Dunboyne Express, winner of the G2 Anglesey Stakes.

Shamardal, who had a fantastic last week with the victories of Sommerabend in a G2 and Casamento in a G3, has sired 31 Black-type winners, including four at G1 level.
