Pinatubo sired his second winner in less than 24 hours on Thursday, 18 July when his daughter Lady Luzon prevailed in the five-furlong Nursery at Hamilton Park.
The David O’Meara-trained filly broke well from the stalls and was settled in second position during the early stages of the race. Always travelling smoothly, Lady Luzon picked up impressively inside the final furlong to take the lead and win more easily than the one-length margin would suggest.
Lady Luzon was bred by Mountarmstrong Stud and is out of the G2-placed mare Jadanna, making her a half-sister to Stakes winners Logo Hunter and Darkanna. They are from the family of this year’s G1 Queen Anne Stakes winner Charyn.
Pinatubo was himself an exceptional juvenile, crowned European Champion after an unbeaten two-year-old campaign that extended to six wins including the G1 Darley Dewhurst and G1 National Stakes. He went on to win the G1 Prix Jean Prat at three.
Pinatubo is also sire of the highly regarded Andesite, who holds several smart entries in the coming months, the unbeaten Wolf Of Badenoch, plus Godolphin’s multiple winner Cavallo Bay.
