Pinatubo, last year’s Timeform Champion first-season sire, recorded his first winner of the new year on Monday, 20 January when his daughter Pinatique won at the first time of asking at Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Smartly away, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained filly was settled just behind the early leader on the outside, where she raced for much of the 10-furlong contest. Asked for her effort once entering the home straight, she battled well in the closing stages to win by a neck.
Pinatique was bred by Ecurie des Monceaux and it out of the G3-winning, G2-placed Montjeu mare Pacifique, already dam of two Black Type performers in Paix (winner of the G3 Prix de Lutece) and Sir Bob Parker (third in the G2 Prix Greffuhle). They are closely related to G1 winner Magic Wand and Dubawi’s G2 winner and G1 placed Emily Dickinson.
Pinatubo sired no fewer than five Black Type performers last year, headed by Listed winner Tipinso and G2 Vintage Stakes second, Wolf Of Badenoch. He also sired £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes winner Hallasan.
Pinatubo stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £30,000, Oct 1, SLF.
