Impressive two-year-old Broadsiding gave boom young Darley shuttle stallion Too Darn Hot his first G1 winner in the Southern Hemisphere when he ploughed through the heavy conditions on Saturday, 20 April to win Champagne Stakes over 1,600m at Royal Randwick.
Patiently ridden by James McDonald in second-last spot until approaching the home turn, Broadsiding surged down the centre of the track to beat Linebacker by three-quarters of a length with Fearless another four-and-a-half lengths away in third.
A brilliant winner of the Listed Fernhill Mile at the same track seven days earlier, Broadsiding justified trainer James Cummings decision to back up the colt with a dominant performance.
Out of Australian mare Speedway, Broadsiding took his record to two wins and two placings from just five starts for prize-money winnings of $739,675.
Too Darn Hot was the two-year-old champion colt of Europe in 2018, a triple G1 winner during six races with three placings from only nine starts.
A son of the immortal Dubawi, Too Darn Hot has been very popular at stud and in the sales rings.
The stallion has already sired 41 winners of 57 races worldwide, including six Stakes winners of nine Black-Type events.
Just last month, Etes Vous Prets (out of Nahoodh) won the G2 Hochi Hai Fillies Revue over 1,400m at Hanshin.
Lots at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and Inglis Classic Yearling Sale sold for $1.9 million and $600,000, respectively.
