Former Champion Two-Year-Old Too Darn Hot has made a tremendous start to his Darley stud career in the Southern Hemisphere with a pair of juvenile winners in Victoria.
Two days after Climate Change won the 2YO Maiden Plate at Geelong over 1100m, speedy filly Arabian Summer scorched turf for an all-the-way victory in the Magic Millions Ballarat 2YO Classic (1000m) on Saturday, 9 December.
Having her third race start after minor placings at Caulfield and Flemington in Stakes company, Arabian Summer hit the ground running and was never troubled to beat Parkhour by three-and-a-half lengths.
Out of the Street Cry mare Maraam, Arabian Summer stopped the clock on 56.70 seconds, just 0.26 seconds outside Anna’s Choice long-standing track record set in 2006.
Co-trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy and ridden by Harry Coffey, Arabian Summer was bred by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and offered by Coolmore Stud, Jerrys Plains at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. McEvoy Mitchell Racing and Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) made the successful bid at $220,000.
Arabian Summer was Too Darn Hot’s 28th individual winner worldwide, with his progeny winning 37 races – including six at Stakes level.
Her victory followed Fallen Angel (Agnes Stewart) winning the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes (1408m) at the Curragh in September which preceded Stakes wins by Darnation (Monday Monday) at Doncaster and Alyanaabi (Alyamaama) at Newmarket in England.
