New Group One winner for Territories

Regional strikes in Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock
Regional

Territories progressive son Regional posted the biggest win of his career with a tremendous performance to land the G1 Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock Park on Saturday, 9 September.

Jumping smartly from the gates, Edward Bethell’s charge was always on terms with the leaders throughout the six-furlong contest. Travelling down the centre of the course under Callum Rodriguez, Regional came through to take up the lead passing the furlong post, however he was soon challenged by Shouldvebeenaring and was briefly headed but he fought back to regain the lead in the final strides to prevail by a head.

Now the winner of five races, the Future Champions Racing Regional-owned five-year-old gelding made a winning seasonal debut in a handicap at York before striking in the five furlong Listed Achilles Stakes at Haydock where he broke the track record, he returned to York in August where he lined up in the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes, his first try in Group company and lost nothing in defeat when finishing fifth.

Regional was bred by Razza del Sole Societa Agricola Srl. He is the second foal out of Italian Stakes-winning mare Favulusa (Dansili), herself a half-sister to G2 Oaks D’Italia heroine Folega and G3 winner Agiato.

Territories is the sire of 26 individual Black Type performers, including G1 EP Taylor heroine Rougir and G1 Derby runner-up Hoo Ya Mal. He is also responsible for G2 victors Berkeley Square and Navajo Peak, whilst earlier in the year his daughter Live To Tell scored back to back Stakes races in Australia.
