Blue Point’s first crop of runners have certainly been making their presence felt and on Monday 21 August, he added his 26th individual winner in record-breaking fashion at Lingfield.
Debutant Elmonjed, who is trained by William Haggas, didn’t enjoy the best of starts in the six-furlong contest and was settled towards the rear under Tom Marquand. He began to make headway on the rail once entering the final two furlongs and picked up very impressively in the closing stages to win by three quarters of a length and in record time.
A Shadwell homebred, Elmonjed is the third winner from three foals to race out of the winning Oasis Dream mare Naafer. The dam is herself a full sister to UAE Champion sprinter Ertijaal, winner of the G2 Meydan Sprint and twice placed in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint – both races that Blue Point himself won during a hugely successful final campaign.
Blue Point is leading European first-season sire and has three Black Type winners and two further Stakes performers to his name to date, headed by Royal Ascot and G3 Molecomb Stakes winner Big Evs, who lines up in Friday’s G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
Blue Point has also enjoyed further success in the sales ring in the past week, averaging €191,000 at the recent Arqana Yearling Sale.
