First-season sire Too Darn Hot recorded a new winner in very eye catching fashion on Friday 28 July when his daughter Darnation took the seven-furlong Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Thirsk by an astounding 10 lengths.
Soon in front under Clifford Lee, Karl Burke’s charge dictated the pace throughout and picking up impressively in the closing stages, eased ever further clear of her rivals to win by a huge margin.
Darnation is owned and bred by Newtown Anner Stud and is the first foal to race out of the unraced Galileo mare Monday Monday, a half-sister to dual Classic winner and Champion filly Blue Bunting.
Too Darn Hot is now sire of seven individual winners, including Fallen Angel, beaten just half a length in yesterday’s Listed Star Stakes at Sandown.
Also at Thirsk on Friday, Blue Point’s outstanding first season continued when Snafiya added a second straight victory to her record in the six-furlong novice.
The Alice Haynes-trained filly broke smartly from the stalls and moving across the course to the stands side, disputed the lead with odds-on favourite Labalaba. Despite drifting back to the centre of the course with two furlongs left to run, Snafiya kept on superbly to win by half a length from the fast-finishing Only In Jakarta.
Later at Newmarket, Les Bleus became a new winner for Blue Point with a ready win in the six-furlong novice.
Having lost ground at the start, Richard Hughes' charge made good headway once settling into her stride and responded well when asked to quicken, going on to win by a length and a quarter.
Les Bleus is out of the winning Invincible Spirit mare Huma Bird, now dam of three winners and hails from the same family as Teofilo's G1 Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter.
Blue Point has made a tremendous start to his stud career, siring 21 individual winners and two Black Type winners to date, including Royal Ascot Stakes winner Big Evs.
