Without A Fight emerged as a potential staying star in Australia when winning the G3 Lord Mayor’s Cup over 1,800m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, 27 May.
Having only his second start in Australia after failing in last year’s Melbourne Cup, the son of Teofilo came from second-last on the home turn to beat Luncies by a widening one-and-three-quarter lengths.
Now trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman in Victoria and patiently ridden by Mark Zahra, Without A Fight recorded his fourth Black Type win following victories in the Listed Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket in 2021, and in the Listed Grand Cup and G3 Silver Cup at York last year.
Out of the Dubawi mare Khor Sheed, Without A Fight improved his record to eight wins and seven placings from 19 starts with earnings of A$526,620.
He also continued a successful Stakes-race run in recent weeks for Teofilo - who sired Character to win the Listed Members’ Handicap at Doomben on 13 May and Eternal Hope to score in the Lingfield Oaks Trial on the same day.
Teofilo, unbeaten during a short racing career in Ireland and England, has sired a remarkable 23 G1 winners including Melbourne Cup scorers Cross Counter and Twilight Payment, plus Exultant, Happy Clapper, Humidor, Kermadec, Valentino and Ascot Gold Cup winner Subjectivist.
Worldwide, Teofilo has sired 111 individual Stakes winners of 221 Black Type races.
Without A Fight was too big, too strong in The Lord Mayor's Cup!
