Harry Angel enjoyed a spectacular Stakes double on Saturday, setting a new record for freshman sires who have never before notched two Black Type winners so early in their first three-year-old season. He also heads the table for second-season sires and three-year-old sires by prize money, Stake winners and Group winners (see table below).
Al Dasim has been firmly on the radar for some time now and confirmed his position as a leading sprinter with a convincing victory in the G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint at Meydan. George Boughey’s charge was recording his fifth win on the bounce and became the first ever three-year-old to beat the older sprinters in this race.
Rated 117 by Timeform (the best by a freshman sire), he now heads to the G1 Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night.
Shortly afterwards and this time at Lingfield, Iconic Moment retained his unbeaten record and successfully stepped up in class when taking the Listed Spring Cup. He holds an entry in the 2,000 Guineas.
World Champion sprinter Harry Angel sired 25 juvenile winners last year, including G2 Gimcrack runner up Marshman, rated the best by any first-season sire last year. He is also sire of Stakes winner Proverb, plus G1 Blue Diamond third Arkansaw Kid.
Harry Angel’s first three-year-olds have reached a Timeform race rating of 90 or higher eight times so far in 2023, three more than his nearest pursuers Dubawi and Havana Grey, and five more than fellow second-crop sire Sioux Nation.
