Tough three-year-old Berkeley Square displayed the fighting qualities of his sire Territories (IRE) when he outstayed his rivals to win the G2 Drummond Golf Vase (2,040m) at The Valley in Melbourne on Saturday, 22 October.
With jockey Craig Williams riding hard in the home straight, the Dan O’Sullivan-trained gelding finished over the top of Virtuous Circle and the tiring Pericles.
Now a winner of four races and placed once from just six starts, Berkeley Square also confirmed his favouritism for next week’s G1 Victoria Derby.
Out of the Australian mare Bahamas - the dam of Hong Kong star Senor Toba - Berkeley Square has now earned $725,150 in prize money.
The gelding has an unraced two-year-old half-sister by Frosted (USA) and a yearling half-brother by Harry Angel (IRE), while Bahamas was covered by Blue Point (IRE) last season.
A G1 winner in France as a three-year-old, Territories has sired six Stakes winners - including the 2021 G1 Prix de l’Opera queen Rougir.
