First season sire Profitable enjoyed a quick-fire double on Saturday, 28 August with two new winners both getting off the mark at the third time of asking.
The Dermot Weld owned and trained Eriskay kick started the day with a narrow victory in a maiden contest at Navan, staying on strongly in the final strides to deny the short-priced favourite Sablonne by a short head.
Bred by her trainer’s own Springbank Way Stud, Eriskay is the first foal out of the winning Oasis Dream mare Catchment, an own sister to G2 Ajax Stakes winner and G1-placed Imagining. They are out of the Stakes-winning Mirror Lake, herself the best performer out an unraced half-sister to the G3-winning siblings Vortex and Danefair, the latter dam of dual G3 winner Tradefair.
Just fifteen minutes later, the Charlie Hill’s trained Willoughby Bay added a second win for her sire, breaking her maiden in style with a two and a half-length victory at Goodwood.
Bred by Ringfort Stud and sold at the Goffs Orby yearling sale, Willoughby Bay is the latest winner out of Emperors Pearl, an own-sister to the G3-placed Pussycat Lips (Holy Roman Emperor). They are out of the Stakes-winning On The Nile, a three-parts sister to G1 winner and sire Kutub.
G1 King’s Stand hero Profitable is now the sire of 18 individual first crop winners, four of which are Stakes performers. They are led by G2 Queen Mary Stakes winner Quick Suzy and the unbeaten Listed Curragh Stakes victrix Head Mistress.
