Shamardal’s four-year-old son Zakouski won his first Group race on Thursday, 20 February when getting up close home in the G2 Zabeel Mile at Meydan. Racing in third for the majority of the race, he looked in trouble turning for home but responded gamely in the straight to swoop close home to deny Mythical Magic (Iffraaj) a repeat victory in the race.
Out of the unraced O’Giselle, a sister to Champion Lonhro, Zakouski is a half-brother to three winners including the Australian-bred Group winner Albrecht and last seasons Group-winning juvenile King’s Command (Dubawi). O’Giselle is now back in Australia and had a colt by Shooting To Win in 2019.
Shamardal has now sired 75 individual Group winners including 25 that have struck at the highest level. Last season he became the only stallion ever to sire three unbeaten G1-winning juveniles through the history-making Pinatubo, Earthlight and Victor Ludorum.
