Zargos, a four-year-old daughter of Shamardal, gifted her sire a new Stakes winner when saluting in the G3 Kevin Sharkie Bow Mistress at Hobart on Sunday, 9 February.
Starting from barrier four in a 12-horse field, the David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained mare jumped midfield in the 1,200m contest to settle. Under the guidance of rider Blaike McDougall, the pair enjoyed a patient ride and rounded the turn, where, 300m from home the duo slid through a gap and sprinted the final furlong home to win by half a length.
Bred by Gerry Ryan's Limerick Lane at Nagambie, Zargos is the first foal of Sister Rocks.
Shamardal has celebrated a phenomenal 12 months having sired five individual G1 winners in the 2019 season, including the outstanding Blue Point, who captured a pair of G1’s at Royal Ascot, and the Champion Two-Year-Old colt Pinatubo.
