The opening race of the second day of Ascot’s Royal meeting provided Slade Power with his first Group winner in fine style as his daughter Raffle Prize took the G2 Queen Mary.
Always prominent in the stands-side group under Frankie Dettori, Raffle Prize was ridden along once passing the two-furlong marker and battled superbly to pass US raider Kimari and win by a head.
This was the second career win for Mark Johnston’s charge, who broke her maiden by no fewer than five lengths late last month, having finished a promising second on her debut at Newmarket a week earlier.
Raffle Prize is out of the Group-winning Pivotal mare Summer Fete, who also finished third in the G2 Celebration Mile. She has produced four winners to date and has a yearling filly by Exceed And Excel and a filly foal by Dubawi.
Slade Power is also sire of the Group-placed colt Bruce Wayne, plus fellow Black Type performers Jack’s Life and Strings Of Life.
Slade Power enjoyed success at Royal Ascot himself, winning the G1 Diamond Jubilee before going on to win the G1 Darley July Cup later the same year.
