Shamardal’s successful 2019 continued on Monday, 10 June when his daughter Shafran Mnm posted her first Black Type win, landing the Listed Grosser Preis der Genossenschaftlichen Finanzgruppe, run over seven furlongs at Hannover.
Shafran Mnm was sent straight to the front once the stalls opened and from then on, she was never headed until the fast-finishing Joplin laid down a sustained challenge close to home. The Werner Haustein-trained filly battled on superbly to prevail in a photo finish.
Shafran Mnm was bred in Ireland and is out of the Oasis Dream mare Powder Mill. She is herself out of the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Bianca Nera, making her a half-sister to Postponed’s dam Ever Rigg.
Shamardal has now sired 11 Black Type winners so far this year, headed by G1-winning duo Blue Point and Castle Lady, winners of the Al Quoz Sprint and French 1,000 Guineas respectively. Both are due to reappear at Royal Ascot next week, with Blue Point aiming for back-to-back victories in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes on the opening day, while Castle Lady heads for the Coronation Stakes on the Friday.
