The Stakes winners flowed thick and fast for the Darley stallions on Sunday, 16 September, headed by a superb G1 double for Dubawi, who was responsible for four Black Type winners on the day. The afternoon was rounded off in style by Teofilo’s daughter Tantheem, who landed the G3 Prix du Petit Couvert at Longchamp.
The Freddy Head-trained filly was soon moved up to a prominent position under jockey Aurelien Lemaire and she stayed up front for the rest of the five-furlong contest, moving clear once asked to quicken, eventually winning by a length and a half.
This was Tantheem’s second straight Group win and fourth victory overall. She broke her maiden by four and a half lengths at two, before winning the Prix de Cabourg (now part of the Darley Series) on her next start and landed the G3 Prix de Meautry on her most recent start.
A homebred for Shadwell Stud, Tantheem is the second winner out of the Stakes-placed Dubawi mare Riqa. They are from the family of multiple G1 winner Tamayuz.
Fast Company opened the afternoon’s proceedings, when his two-year-old daughter Spectralight won the Listed Premio Repubbliche Marinare in Rome.
Half an hour later, talented four-year-old Teofilo filly Eziyra recorded her fifth victory at Group level with an impressive win in the G2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh, shortly before Dubawi’s daughter Kitesurf posted a thrilling victory in the G1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp.
Dubawi was once again to the fore in the next race at Longchamp when Brundtland maintained his unbeaten record with a frontrunning win in the G2 Prix Niel.
Brundtland had barely been pulled up before the action switched back to the Curragh, this time for the G1 National Stakes and Dubawi’s exciting two-year-old son Quorto could not have been more impressive, as he followed in his outstanding sire’s footsteps to win by a length and a quarter. He could reappear in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes next month and looks like a strong contender for next year’s Classics.
In Germany, Dubawi’s Lunar Maria became the fourth horse of the day to carry the Godolphin blue silks to victory in a Stakes race, winning the Listed Grosser Preis der Metallbau Burckhardt, run over a mile at Hannover.
The aforementioned Tantheem then concluded the day in style, sprinting to her second consecutive Group win, providing Teofilo with a G3 double on the day.
