Teofilo sired his second new Stakes winner on the day when his three-year-old son Cross Counter ran out the very easy winner of the G3 Gordon Stakes. Sent to the front out of the stalls by William Buick, he set strong early fractions and ran on very well to record a four-and-a-half length triumph over Derby second Dee Ex Bee (Farhh), the pair eight lengths clear of the third.
Despite the small field, the winning time of 2:31.39 was a new track record.
Cross Counter is the second winner, from her second foal, of the Listed-placed mare Waitress (Kingmambo). Her first foal was the highly rated winner Right Direction (Cape Cross) and she also has a juvenile filly, named Bali Beach, by Farhh and a yearling filly by Helmet.
Teofilo was completing a Stakes double on the day after Crimson Rosette’s Listed Chalice Stakes victory at Newmarket. He has now sired 79 individual Stakes winners.
