Three-year-old Teofilo colt Key Victory maintained his unbeaten record in Stakes-winning style on Saturday, 5 May with a determined win in the Listed Newmarket Stakes on 2,000 Guineas day at Newmarket.
Slightly keen under William Buick early on in the ten-furlong contest, Charlie Appleby’s charge didn’t enjoy the clearest of passages, but took the lead a furlong from home and despite showing a little greenness under pressure, picked up superbly in the closing stages to win by a length and a quarter from stablemate Old Persian (Dubawi).
Key Victory broke his maiden on his racecourse debut over seven furlongs at Newmarket last October and holds entries in both the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the G1 Irish Derby.
A Godolphin homebred, Key Victory is out of the Dubawi mare Patroness, a full sister to G1 winner Poet’s Voice. Patroness is also dam of this year’s G1 Jebel Hatta winner Blair House and has a yearling colt by New Approach, whose son Masar ran a creditable third in the G1 2,000 Guineas earlier on the same card.
Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €40,000 Oct 1 SLF.
