Humidor continued the strong form in Australia for Teofilo when he swept to a convincing victory in the G2 Blamey Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, 17 March.
A week after Teofilo’s greatest worldwide earner Happy Clapper added another G1 win to his record, Humidor re-established his presence among the best Australian middle-distance performers with his fourth Stakes success.
Jockey Mark Zahra had Humidor travelling comfortably at the rear of the small field until 300 metres from home when he called on the five-year-old who responded gamely to win by a half-length from Cool Chap with another three-quarters-of-a-length to Tosen Stardom in third place.
While Humidor is a dual G1 winner in his own right, he is also remembered in Australia as the horse who came within a neck of upsetting the Winx fairy tale when second to the Champion mare in last spring’s G1 Cox Plate.
Bred in New Zealand by Jomara Bloostock, Humidor is out of the winning Zabeel mare Zalika and is from a family that includes Champion European sprinter Habibti, whose nine victories included the G1 treble of the King's Stand Stakes, the Prix de l’Abbaye and the July Cup.
Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud in Ireland at a fee of €40,000, October 1, Special Live Foal.
