Poet’s Voice, the northern hemisphere’s leading sire by ratio of winners to runners (39%), added a new Stakes winner to his record in superb style on Friday, 23 February when his son Montsarrat took the Listed Jebel Ali Stakes.
Sent straight to the front under Pat Dobbs, Montsarrat was in command throughout and was still on the bridle well into the home straight. Once asked to quicken, he soon opened up an unassailable lead, eventually crossing the line six lengths ahead of his nearest rival.
Montsarrat won on his racecourse debut and went on to record two further victories during his juvenile campaign in the UK. He was third in the Listed Glasgow Stakes at three and now has six wins to his name.
Bred by Agricola del Parco, Montsarrat is out of Flying Flag (Entrepreneur), also dam of multiple Stakes winner Laguna Salada and fellow Black Type performer Ladiesandgentlemen.
Poet’s Voice enjoyed a superb year in 2017, siring no fewer than 29 individual juvenile winners – a figure that can only be bettered by his own sire, world-leader Dubawi.
Poet’s Voice stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £6,000, October 1, Special Live Foal.
Later on the same card, Dubawi's son Shillong provided the father and son with a clean sweep of the card's Stakes contests when sweeping to victory in the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint.
Always going well under Pat Cosgrave, Shillong flew down the home straight to pass eventual second High On Life and win going away by a length and three quarters.
Shillong is out of the Jersey Stakes winner and G1 Falmouth Stakes and G1 Sun Chariot Stakes third, Rainfall.
Dubawi is also sire this year of G2 Al Rashidiya Stakes winner Benbatl, who may make his reappearance in the G1 Jebel Hatta on Super Saturday at Meydan in two weeks' time.
