There may only be a few days left of 2017, but Epaulette was not quite ready to round off a successful season with his first European runners as he added a 23rd to his record on Boxing Day.
Reiffa was making her racecourse debut and the William Haggas-trained filly was slightly slowly away under Georgia Cox in the five-furlong contest at Wolverhampton. As Midsummer Knight looked to have put the race to bed just over a furlong out, Reiffa was shaken up and responded brilliantly, running on superbly close to home to win by a length.
Reiffa, who was purchased for 115,000 guineas at this year’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, was bred by Wardstown Stud Ltd. She is out of the multiple winner Phi Phi, now dam of seven winners including the Stakes-placed filly Birl’s Angel.
Epaulette, who will stand at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €7,000, Oct 1, Special Live Foal next year, is also sire of four Black Type performers, including the Group-placed McMunigal.
