Blue Point has been a marvellous campaigner for both Godolphin and his sire Shamardal and on Saturday, 7 October, he recorded his third Group win, landing the six-furlong G3 Bengough Stakes at Ascot.
Making all under William Buick (who was making a welcome return to the saddle today), Blue Point dominated throughout and despite wandering under pressure close to home, was never seriously challenged and crossed the line half a length in front.
Blue Point won his first two starts as a juvenile, before landing the G2 Gimcrack Stakes by three lengths. He then found only The Last Lion too good in the G1 Middle Park Stakes. This year, he kicked off his three-year-old campaign with victory in the G3 Pavilion Stakes at Ascot (beating subsequent multiple G1 winner Harry Angel), before finishing third in the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
Blue Point was bred by Oak Lodge Bloodstock and is out of the Royal Applause mare Scarlett Rose, also dam of fellow G2 winner Formosina. Scarlett Rose has a 2017 colt by Night Of Thunder.
Blue Point is one of 25 Black Type performers for Shamardal so far this year, who has sired no fewer than 18 G1 winners during his illustrious career at stud.
