A record-breaking Tattersalls October Yearling Sales Book 1 concluded in Newmarket on Thursday, 5 October and leading sire Dubawi was once again to the fore as he brought his total of seven-figure yearlings to a staggering eight.
Any yearling out of Champion and five-time G1 winner Attraction was always going to be the focus of many buyers’ attention, and her Dubawi colt certainly didn’t disappoint as he was knocked down to Shadwell Stud for 1.35 million guineas.
Later in the session, Shadwell once again made the winning bid, this time for Dubawi’s gorgeous colt out of another multiple G1-winning Champion, Danedream (pictured).
Dubawi concluded the sale with an average of over 800,000 guineas and was responsible for the highest-priced colt of the sale, Meon Valley Stud’s son of G1 winner Izzi Top, who sold to Roger Varian for 2.6 million guineas on the opening day.
Shamardal has also proved popular with buyers this week and his highest price on Thursday was 680,000 guineas, given by David Redvers for a filly out of the impeccably-bred G1-placed Cloud Castle.
There was also further success for Iffraaj, as the Manor Farm Stud-consigned filly out of Constant Dream (closely related to Iffraaj’s daughter Muffri’Ha, who won the G3 Darley Stakes last week) went to Godolphin for 525,000 guineas. Godolphin also secured an Iffraaj filly out of Forest Crown, a half-sister to G1 winner Crowded House, for 450,000.
New Approach, who is enjoying an outstanding year with his current two-year-olds, recorded a top price on the day of 320,000 guineas, for the Castlebridge-consigned colt out of Exceed And Excel mare Excel’s Beauty, who is closely related to smart sprinter Cotai Glory.
