Shamardal’s progressive four-year-old daughter Aljazzi won her first Group race on Saturday 2 September when easily winning the G3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown Park. Held up in the rear off the strong early pace, she made a sweeping move down the outside in the straight, quickening clear in the final furlong to record an easy three-length triumph over Nathra (Iffraaj).
Aljazzi has now won four of her ten starts including a brace of Listed victories in the Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes at Kempton and the Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes at Haydock.
Owned and bred by Saleh Al Homaizi & Imad Al Sagar, she is a daughter of the Stakes-winning mare Nouriya and from the extended family of Zafeen.
Aljazzi is one of 22 Stakes performers for Shamardal in 2017 including five that have won or placed at G1 level. These include the Commonwealth Cup place-getter Blue Point, Classic-filly Heuristique and Usherette.
