Regimented became the fifth winner for his first-season sire Epaulette on 26 July, winning at the first time of asking at Lingfield.
The Richard Hannon-trained colt broke smartly under Kieran O’Neill and was prominent throughout. Showing little sign of greenness once asked for his effort, Regimented moved to the front approaching the final furlong marker and held off the more experienced Sarstedt to win the seven-furlong contest by three quarters of a length.
Regimented was bred in Ireland by J P Keappock and is one of three winners out of the Spectrum mare Colour Coordinated. The dam is a half-sister to G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes winner and G1 St Leger third Bonny Scot, plus Highland Gift – dam of Golan and Tartan Bearer.
Later that evening Epaulette took his tally to six winners when his son Best Of Me struck for the first time at Naples in Italy. Making his second career start after a debut second at Rome, he had no trouble defeating his rivals by upwards of three lengths.
Bred by Mattock Stud, Best Of Me is the second winner bred out of the Linamix mare She’s A Minx, who is herself a daughter of Stakes winner Shizao and granddaughter of G3 Prix du Calvados heroine Shigeru Summit.
Epaulette, a Stakes-winning juvenile who went on to win twice at G1 level at three, is also sire of impressive York winner International Man, plus Doublet – who won by two lengths at Epsom last week. The latter is due to reappear at Newmarket this Saturday.
