First-season sire Epaulette added a new winner in convincing fashion on 20 July when his son Doublet led from pillar to post to land the seven-furlong maiden at Epsom.
Breaking smartly and sent straight to the front under Franny Norton, the Mark Johnston-trained colt was asked for his effort two furlongs from home and found plenty inside the final furlong to win authoritatively by two lengths.
Doublet was bred by Ted & Brian Jones and was a €130,000 foal. He is out of the winning Araafa mare Biaarafa, herself a daughter of G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Bianca Nera – granddam of Dubawi’s four-time G1 winner Postponed. Biaarafa has been safely scanned in foal to The Last Lion this year.
Epaulette, a dual G1 winner at three, is also sire of first-time-out winners Chookie Dunedin and International Man, plus Fas le Fios, successful at Maisons-Laffitte earlier this year.
