Iffraaj three-year-old Gingernuts recorded a thrilling last-to-first victory in the G2 Avondale Guineas at Ellerslie in New Zealand on 18 February.
After stepping slowly from the barriers, Gingernuts settled at the rear of the field in the early stages. Still a clear last turning for home, jockey Jonathan Parkes began to weave a passage close to the inside rail before bursting to the lead in the closing stages and going on to score a decisive victory.
Bred by Goodwood Stud, Gingernuts is the first Stakes winner out of metropolitan-winning Generous mare Double Elle.
Gingernuts is the third Group winner for Iffraaj already this year, joining G2 Waikato Guineas winner Wyndspelle and G3 Jebel Ali Mile victor Forjatt.
Iffraaj is standing at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £27,500 October 1st SLF.
