It was a successful afternoon's racing for Shamardal and Teofilo on 29 October, with both sires recording new two-year-old Stakes winners.
Shamardal filly Really Special looked a promising type when winning on her racecourse debut in convincing style earlier this month she made it two from two and became the latest Black type winner for her sire, landing the Montrose Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket.
Making all under Jim Crowley, Really Special (who is trained by Saeed bin Suroor) was asked to quicken two furlongs from home and responded brilliantly to move clear and win by two and three quarter lengths. Well-bred Dubawi filly Kazimiera ran on well to finish second.
Really Special is the first foal to race out of the Stakes-winning Monsun mare Rumh, whose own dam Royal Dubai is a half-sister to G1 winner Royal Highness.
Shamardal has now sired 21 individual Stakes winners in 2016, headed by G1-winning trio Dariyan, Speedy Boarding and Tryster.
Later in the afternoon, Teofilo colt Dubai Sand (who also runs in the Godolphin blue) broke his maiden in the Listed Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown to provide trainer Jim Bolger with his third consecutive winner of the nine-furlong contest.
Settled in second under Kevin Manning, Dubai Sand moved clear a furlong out and kept to his task well to win by half a length.
Bred by Jim Bolger, Dubai Sand is one of three winners out of Bring Back Matron, herself a full-sister to Maria Lee - dam of New Approach's Stakes-winning daughter Glamorous Approach.
Dubai Sand is one of 31 horses who have won or placed at Black type level for Teofilo this year, who is also sire of 2016 G1 winners Palentino, Quest For More and Special Fighter.
