First crop sires Farhh and Epaulette shone at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sales at Doncaster this week, with the first of their yearlings to be offered at public auction much in demand.
Farhh provided one of the high points of the first day when his sole yearling in the catalogued was snapped up for £170,000 by agent Jill Lamb who saw off underbidder Angus Gold to secure the Newsells Park Stud-consigned colt. A half-brother to the Stakes winner Danehill Destiny, the colt's page received a big boost last week when Stormy Clouds, out of his half-sister, landed the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sales Stakes sales race at York.
A dual G1 winner over a mile and ten furlongs, Farhh's first foals caught the eye last year, selling for up to 90,000gns, and the trend looks set to continue with his first yearlings. The son of Pivotal has 27 yearlings catalogued at Tattersalls in October.
Epaulette's first crop of European yearlings also made a splash at Doncaster, headed by a a colt out of a half-sister to the Champion juvenile Bushranger who was purchased by Shadwell for £70,000.
The outstanding Australian sprinter also had a pair of yearlings sell for £52,000 apiece, including a filly from the family of the outstanding sprinter Lochsong (lot 101), and a colt out of a half-sister to the G3 winner Class Is Class (lot 232).
In all, Epaulette averaged £32,866 for 15 yearlings sold, an average of over five times his stud fee.
Fellow reverse shuttler Sepoy has made a good start with his first northern hemisphere runners this year, and a filly from his second crop took the eye on Tuesday, selling for £84,000 to Blandford Bloodstock. Consigned by Furnace Mill Stud, the filly (lot 164) is out of a winning half-sister to the the top sprinter Reverence.
Fast Company, new to the Darley roster for 2017, hit the heights during the second session when a colt consigned by Lynn Lodge Stud was purchased by Amanda Skiffington for £110,000.
Iffraaj was also on target, with Rabbah Bloodstock securing a colt from the family of G1 winnr Free Eagle and the G2-wining pair Custom Cut and Sapphire for £68,000.
