New winner for Rio de la Plata

Madretierra is victorious on debut out to provide her first-season sire with more racecourse success

First-season sire Rio de la Plata added a new winner to his record on 29 June when his daughter Madretierra made a successful racecourse debut at Valparaiso in Chile.

Breaking smartly from the stalls, the two-year-old filly was prominent throughout the five-furlong contest and outbattled Kapanga Raider close to home to get up and win by a neck, with the pair over five lengths clear of the third-placed horse.

Madretierra was bred by Juan Carlos Harding and is out of the El Prado mare Madrilene, herself a daughter of G1 winner Lignify.

Rio de la Plata was a G1-winning juvenile who went on to win twice more at the highest level. He is also sire of dual winner Aiming For Rio, who won her second race by no fewer than five lengths last month, plus Alcazar who won at Newcastle last week.
