Daughters of the Darley stallions dominated the day’s Black type contests at Baden-Baden on 26 May, as following Techno Queen’s (Manduro) victory in the Preis der Hotellerie, Shamardal’s talented daughter Royal Solitaire took the feature race of the day, the G2 Badener Meile.
The four-year-old filly was settled in third position during the early stages and ridden along approaching the final bend, she accelerated down the centre of the track and battled superbly to hold a sustained challenge from Nymeria and a late charge from Rosebay to win by half a length.
This was Royal Solitaire’s third consecutive Black type win, as she has already won twice at Listed level this year.
Royal Solitaire was bred by Janus Bloodstock Inc. & Stilvi Comp and now runs in the colours of Gestüt Ammerland. She is out of the Stakes-winning and Group-placed mare Reverie Solitaire, herself a daughter of G3 winner and G1 performer Cloud Castle. They are from the family of great producer Lucayan Princess, dam of G1 winners Warrsan and Luso.
So far this year, Shamardal has sired six individual Group winners (two of whom have won at G1 level in Tryster and Dariyan), plus a further eight horses who have won or placed at Black type level.
Also on Thursday, well-bred Shamardal colt Lusory made an eye-catching debut at Haydock for Godolphin. He is out of G1 winner Playful Act, already dam of three Black type winners including G2 winner Giant’s Play and Street Cry’s G3-winning daughter Anjaz.
