Teofilo gelding Humidor confirmed his staying promise with a strong on-pace win the G3 Manawatu Classic over 2000m on April 2 at Awapuni in New Zealand to become his sire’s 53rd individual Stakes winner.
Starting favourite, three-year-old Humidor sat behind a strong tempo set by the leader and, hugging the rail all the way, maintained a strong run in the straight to hold off the late challenge of Domesday gelding Five To Midnight, who finished second.
Trained by Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard at Otaki and ridden by Mark Du Plessis, Humidor has now taken his record to two wins in five starts after being unplaced in the G1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) at his previous start.
Bred and raced by Jomara Bloodstock, Humidor is out of Zabeel mare Zalika, a three-time winner who is the dam of five foals to race for four winners including General Nediym stallion Marechal.
Teofilo enjoyed a superb year in 2015, siring no fewer than nine G1 performers and 41 Group or Stakes horses, headed by Irish 1,000 Guineas and Yorkshire Oaks heroine Pleascach.
Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 October 1st SLF.
