Sanus Per Aquam strikes in the Somerville Tattersall Stakes

First Group victory for exciting Teofilo juvenile at Newmarket

Sanus Per Aquam has always been well regarded by Jim Bolger, winning his first two starts in highly promising fashion. On 24 September the two-year-old son of Teofilo gained a well-deserved first victory at Group level when prevailing in the G3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile.

Soon disputing the lead under Kevin Manning, Sanus Per Aquam looked to have lost his chance of victory as he entered the dip but once he met the rising ground, accelerated superbly to regain the lead close to home and win by a nose.

Bred by his trainer Jim Bolger, Sanus Per Aquam is out of the Peintre Celebre mare Fainne, herself a half-sister to New Approach’s outstanding multiple G1 winner Dawn Approach, plus his full brother Hymn Of The Dawn, winner of this year’s G2 Futurity Stakes and runner up in the G1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.

Teofilo is enjoying an outstanding year courtesy of his multiple G1 winners Pleascach and Kermadec, plus G2 winners Arod and Tamaanee – both of whom have been placed at the highest level this year. He also has an exciting group of juveniles, with Listed-winning, Group-placed filly Fireglow and fellow Stakes winner Round Two also flying the flag for him in 2015.
