New Black type winner for Teofilo

Teofilo’s four-year-old son Amralah has performed extremely well since stepping up to Black type level and on 19 July he gained his first Stakes victory when taking the ten-furlong Steventon Stakes at Newbury.

Making the early running under Andrea Azteni, Mick Channon’s charge did eventually find cover and hitting the front once more as the field quickened for home, ran on well to fend off the late challenge from Godolphin’s Vancouverite and win by a short head.

Amralah was last seen finishing second to Windhoek (Cape Cross) in the Listed Gala Stakes at Sandown earlier this month and a step up to Group level is now on the cards for this progressive colt.

He was bred by Nawara Stud and is one of three winners out of the unraced Diesis mare Sharp Mode, a close relative of multiple G1 winner Elmaamul and Oaks winner Reams Of Verse.

Teofilo has now sired seven individual Stakes winners this year, plus a further ten horses who have been placed at Black type level. They include G1 winner Sonntag plus Oaks second Tarfasha – currently favourite to take tomorrow’s Darley Irish Oaks. His Irish Derby winner Trading Leather was recently second to Shamardal’s Mukhadram in the G1 Eclipse.
