G2 glory for Fintry
Shamardal's lightly raced daughter Fintry stepped up in class with success on Sunday June 1 when landing the G2 Prix de Sandringham over a mile at Chantilly. Making only her fourth career start, she won her only start at two at Saint-Cloud and came here on the back of a Listed success in the Prix Volterra over today's course and distance. Now the winner of three of her four starts, she was up at the front throughout and only needed to be nudged out to the line to record a cosy success.
Fintry, who was bred by Darley, is out of the G3 winner and G1 placed Indian Ridge mare Campsie Fells, who was bred in the UAE, and a half-sister to two Stakes runners in Lochinver and Cross Fell.
Shamardal has sired 16 Stakes winners in 2014, a figure no other stallion can beat. These 16 include G1w Dan Excel, winner of the International Cup at Kranji, G2-winners Sommerabend, Excellent Result and Ghibellines and multiple Dubai Classic winner Ihtimal, who was third in the 1,000 Guineas on her last start and now heads to the Oaks on Friday. Shamardal is standing this season for €50,000 at Kildangan Stud alongside his G1-winning son Casamento (€5,000).
