Ninth G1 winner for Shamardal

Three-year-old Shamardal filly Maybe Discreet became her sire’s ninth G1 winner with a dominant two-and-a-half length win in the G1 Australasian Oaks over 10f at Morphettville, April 27.

A G2 winner of the Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington in October last year, Maybe Discreet overcame a wide barrier draw to claim her maiden G1 success.

Trained by Phillip Stokes and ridden by Dom Tourneur, the daughter of Shamardal led throughout the G1 feature, dashing clear at the top of the straight and going on to win very comfortably.

A homebred for David Peacock, Maybe Discreet is out of the Listed-placed Bluebird mare Oh So Discreet, a half-sister to no less than five Stakes winners including G3 winners Be Discreet, She’s Discreet and Gilded Angel.

Including Maybe Discreet, Oh So Discreet has had five foals to race for five winners among them Stakes winning Exceed And Excel mare Just Discreet.

As the sire of 48 international Stakes winners including G1 winners Lope De Vega, Zazou, Faint Perfume, Crackerjack King, Captain Sonador, Amaron, Sagawara and Darley stallion Casamento, Shamardal is standing the current season at Kildangan Stud in Ireland for €50,000, while Casamento will stand alongside his sire at €5,000.
