Shamardal’s five-year-old son Tryster was a model of consistency last year, recording six wins from seven starts and he kicked off his 2016 campaign in tremendous style when flying down the Meydan straight to take the ten-furlong G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes.
This was his first outing on the turf course at Meydan and slowly away, Charlie Appleby’s charge was settled at the rear of the field under William Buick. As the field began to quicken for home, he looked to have plenty to do (even with his trademark blistering turn of foot) but once asked for his effort, simply cruised past his rivals and soon moved clear to win by two and three-quarter lengths.
Tryster was winner of both the G3 Winter Derby and the valuable Easter Classic last year and a step up in class is now likely for the talented Godolphin runner with the G1 Jebel Hatta and the Dubai Turf on Dubai World Cup night cited as possible targets. He was bred in Ireland by Herbertstown Stud and is out of the Stakes-placed Riverman mare Min Alhawa, herself a half-sister to G1 1,000 Guineas winner Harayir. Tryster was one of no fewer than 30 Stakes winners in 2015 for Shamardal, who is sire of 15 G1 winners to date including last year’s Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Lumiere and Hong Kong superstar Able Friend.
