Night Of Thunder’s four-year-old daughter, Rumbles of Thunder, proved too good for her rivals at Gowran Park when landing the Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes on Wednesday, 4 May.
The well-bred filly, having her second run for owner and trainer Paddy Twomey, travelled well in midfield and once the race began to develop, jockey Colin Keane switched her for a run up the stands side and in the final furlong she pulled away from the field to win by a comfortable three lengths.
Rumbles of Thunder, also a winner of Listed events in France over 11 and 12 furlongs last year, showed her versatility here when dropping back in trip to nine and a half furlongs.
Bred by F Killen, Rumbles of Thunder is the first foal out of Blanche Neige (Halling), herself a full-sister to G1 winner, Harland, and a half-sister to Group performer Musis Amica (Dawn Approach), their dam being White Star who is herself out of G1 Kentucky Oaks winner White Star Line.
Night of Thunder, leading first-season sire In Europe in 2019, sires an exceptional 20% Stakes winners to foals. He is enjoying a very successful start to 2022, siring fellow Stakes winners Cherry Tortoni, Storm Damage, Kukeracha and Thunder Kiss.
Night of Thunder stands at Kildangan Stud, Co. Kildare at €75,000, Oct 1, Special Live Foal.
