Superalloy shows his mettle in Gold Edition Plate

Wet track and wide run can’t stop son of Too Darn Hot recording first Stakes success

Superalloy broke his maiden in fine style and provided Too Darn Hot with another Black-Type winner when he came with a powerful burst to win the Listed Golden Edition Plate at a rain-soaked Eagle Farm on Saturday, 14 December.

The three-year-old, out of the Medaglia d’Oro mare Oria, had finished in the placings at four of his eight starts but seemed to appreciate a quiet ride from Angela Jones.

Jones eased back after a good start and switched out to the centre at the top of the home straight before Superalloy finished hard to beat Hella Fast by a length, with I’m Zac another three-quarters of a length away in third place.

The winner, bred by Heshill P/L and raced by Fraser Thoroughbreds, took his prize-money purse to $336,800 under Toowoomba trainer Rex Lipp.

Superalloy joined Smoken (out of Miss Marjurie), who won the Listed Montrose Stakes over 1609m at Newmarket in England last month, as the latest progeny of Too Darn Hot to win feature races.

In just a couple of seasons, the young stallion has produced 122 winners of 187 races worldwide.

He is the sire of reigning Australian 2YO of the Year Broadsiding and now has 18 individual Stakes winners of 30 Black-Type events.

Too Darn Hot has 14 colts and 10 fillies in the catalogue for the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from January 7-13. This year one of his Gold Coast lots sold to a high of $1.9 million.
