Sticking to the Script

Royal Applause colt Whatsthescript records his third Graded Stakes win with victory in the G2 Del Mar Mile

Former top-class juvenile Whatsthescript landed his second Graded Stakes win of the year and the third of his career when winning the G2 Del Mar Mile in California on Sunday.

Bred in Ireland by Chris MacHale and Jimmy Hyland, the Royal Applause four-year-old was sold to America halfway through his two-year-old season and subsequently won the G3 Generous Stakes in 2006. This year, he took the G2 American Handicap in June and was runner-up in the G1 Eddie Read Handicap, also at Del Mar, in July.

Whatsthescript is out of the Lion Cavern mare Grizel, who is a half-sister to Halling's Stakes-winning daughter Queen Of Poland.

Royal Applause has 13 yearlings catalogued to sell at Doncaster's St Leger Yearling Sale which starts tomorrow (26 August) and among those on offer in Book 1 of Tattersalls October Sale is a half-brother to G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks winner Lush Lashes. The colt, offered by Mount Coote Stud, is lot 460.
