Shamardal has been enjoying an outstanding year so far and on Saturday, 20 July, his son Waldpfad made a successful trip from Germany to the UK and won his second Group race of the year when landing the G3 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury.
Settled in the middle of the pack early on in the six-furlong contest, Waldpfad began to make headway two furlongs out and taking the lead inside the final furlong, quickened impressively to move clear and win by a length and three quarters.
Owned and bred by Gestut Brummerhof, Waldpfad is out of the unraced Mark Of Esteem mare Waldbeere, a full sister to Falmouth Stakes second Waldmark, herself dam of G1 St Leger winner Masked Marvel. The mare is also a half sister to Dubawi’s G1 German Derby winner Waldpark.
Shamardal is also sire this year of sprint sensation and the newest addition to the Darley stallion roster in Ireland, Blue Point. He won both premier sprint contests at this year’s Royal Ascot, the G1 King’s Stand and G1 Diamond Jubilee.
