Sommerabend lands the G3 Prix Edmond Blanc
Shamardal is enjoying a very successful year so far, and with April not even at it’s halfway point he recorded his eighth individual Stakes winner when Sommerabend landed the G3 Prix Edmond Blanc at Saint-Cloud.
Settled just off the pace, Sommerabend travelled smoothly throughout the one-mile contest and once asked to quicken, soon took the lead and kept to his task well to win by a head.
This was his fifth victory at Stakes level and tenth career victory. He has finished in the frame in no fewer than 17 of his 28 starts and won the G2 Grosse Europa Meile as a four-year-old.
Bred by Gestut Schlenderhan, Sommerabend is out of the Group performer and Listed winner Sommernacht, dam of four Black type performers to date. Sommernacht has a yearling full-brother to Sommerabend.
Shamardal is also sire this year of G2-winning duo Excellent Result and Ghibellines, plus dual UAE Classic winner Ihtimal (who now heads for the English Guineas), plus Bow Creek – who landed the Listed International Trial Stakes last Saturday. He is currently Europe’s second leading sire by number of Stakes winners, behind only Dubawi who has ten.
