Anamba, a three-year-old daughter of Shamardal, recorded a valuable Stakes victory on Sunday 29 May when landing the Listed Owenstown Stud Stakes at Naas. Due to run last weekend in the Irish 1,000 Guineas where she pulled out due to the soft ground, she held a spot on the rails in midfield and when the gap opened in the straight, she sprinted away to win by two lengths, with Sevenleft (Manduro) back in third.
Anamba’s dam, the Australian-bred mare Anamato (Redoute’s Choice) was a G1 winner in her native land in the Australasian Oaks, and she competed for three seasons at the top level in both Australia and the US. Retired to the breeding sheds in Europe, she also has a two-year-old filly by New Approach before she was exported back to Australia, where she has been tested in foal to Lonhro.
Shamardal is fast approaching 100 individual Stakes winners with Anamba becoming his 95th. Amongst these are 17 top-flight scorers, including a pair in 2016 through Tryster and Dariyan and he is one of only two stallions to have earned more than £1 million in prize-money in Europe this season.
Shamardal is also fast becoming a noted sire of sires and his first-crop son Casamento recently sired his first winner through the impressive Barrington, who is now likely to head to Royal Ascot.
