Group-winning Shamardal entire Bow Creek has scored his first Stakes success in Australia after showing tremendous closing speed to win the G2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on February 27.
After initially starting his career in the UK, five-year-old Bow Creek is now trained in Australia by John O’Shea and displayed his talent last campaign when third to multiple G1 winner Turn Me Loose in the G2 Crystal Mile (1600m) at Moonee Valley at his first stable for the stable.
Second up from a spell on Saturday after an encouraging resuming run two weeks earlier, Bow Creek settled midfield on the fence and jockey Damien Oliver was able to take a run on the fence to strike the front in the straight for an impressive victory.
Bred by Roundhill Stud and sold as a yearling for 130,000Gns, Bow Creek is a half-brother to Group colt Dare To Dream and out of the G3-winning mare Beneventa (Most Welcome).
Shamardal sired 30 Stakes winners in 2015, including Tryster, who this month won the G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes at Meydan over ten furlongs and heads next to the G1 Jebel Hatta on Super Saturday.
He is also the sire of 15 G1 winners including last year’s Cheveley Park Stakes victor Lumiere, Hong Kong superstar Able Friend and exciting first-season stallion Casamento.
