Second straight Group win for son of Shamardal
Sommerabend (Shamardal) has been in flying form since returning to France and on 1 May he recorded his second straight Group win (and second victory at G2 level) when landing the Prix du Muguet at Saint-Cloud.
Smartly away under Gerald Mosse, he was never far from the pace and ran on superbly to win the one-mile contest by a length and a quarter. Sommerabend won the G3 Prix Edmond Blanc over the same course and distance on 8 April and landed the G2 Grosser Europa-Meile back in 2011. He has now won at Black type level on six occasions.
Bred by Gestut Schlenderhan, Sommerabend is out of the Group performer and Listed winner Sommernacht, dam of four Black type performers to date. Sommernacht has a yearling full-brother to Sommerabend.
Shamardal is enjoying an excellent 2014 to date, siring ten individual Stakes winners and a further eight Stakes performers. Ihtimal, his dual UAE Classic winner will line up in this Sunday’s 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, a race for which she is around 8-1 to win.
Shamardal stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 October 1st Special Live Foal.
