Scone Cup to Shamardal's daughter
Having previously won the G3 Keith Nolan Classic during her Classic season, four-year-old Shamardal mare Cameo gave the Darley stallions three winners from the last four editions of the Scone Cup, with a classy length victory.
Giving trainer John O’Shea his first Stakes winner for Darley in Australia, Cameo settled on the rail a few pairs back in the run while the leaders ensured a good tempo upfront. When the field started to fan coming into the home turn, jockey Sam Clipperton, fresh from success in the previous race, urged his mare along the rails.
Taking the lead with a furlong to go, Cameo surged away to take the Listed event, registering her fourth career victory.
Bred by Darley, Cameo is out of the A. P. Indy mare Portrait Of A Lady, a winning half-sister to the G3-winning, dual G1 placed Layman. From the family of fellow Darley stallions Cape Cross and Iffraaj, Portrait Of A Lady has a weanling colt by Medaglia d'Oro and was covered by Sepoy in the latest breeding season in Australia.
Standing at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 October 1st Special Live Foal, Shamardal is the sire of 64 Stakes winners highlighted by ten individual G1 winners including Lope De Vega, Dunboyne Express, Faint Perfume and Darley stallion Casamento who stands alongside his sire at a fee of €5,000.
