Salpado lands Grand Criterium de Bordeaux

French-bred Stakes winner for Royal Applause as two-year-old colt records his third victory

Royal Applause has been noted as a consistent source of talented juveniles, a fact which was highlighted again with the length-and-a-half victory of Salpado in the Listed Grand Criterium de Bordeaux at Bordeaux le Bouscat on Thursday.

The French-bred colt is out of Moonbaby (Le Balafre) and was bred by Eric Puerari and Oceanic Bloodstock. He has now won three of his four races, having been fourth on debut.

Royal Applause, who stands at the Royal Studs at Sandringham, has had 17 juvenile winners  so far this season, including  G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Please Sing, G3 Molecomb Stakes winner Finjaan (pictured) and G2 runner-up Oui Say Oui.

Unsurprisingly, the offspring of Royal Applause are popular in the sales ring. This autumn, 24 of his yearlings have sold for an average of £48,768.
