Aiming For Rio, Rio de la Plata’s first-ever runner, broke her sire's maiden on Monday 9 May when making all the running to win impressively at Cagnes-sur-Mer. After a promising debut at Chantilly, she was taking on previous winners at the picturesque course and knowing her job from the stalls, she ran right away in the final furlong for a three-and-a-half-length success.
Bred by Haras du Logis and bought for €12,000 as a foal, Aiming For Rio is a daughter of the Compton Place mare Tevara, who is herself a daughter of the European Champion two-year-old filly Torgau. Tevara also has a yearling filly by Slickly.
Rio de la Plata won the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and G2 Vintage Stakes as a juvenile before running second in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains and landing the G1 Premio Roma and G1 Premio Vittorio di Capua as an older horse. His first crop have been exceptionally well-received at the sales and have averaged €45,000 with a top price of €250,000. He is standing this season at a fee of €5,500 Oct 1, SLF.
